Disasters: Environmental Catastrophes and Human Tragedies

This encyclopedia is a descriptive, illustrated account of disasters, both natural and human-induced, that have occurred throughout the world at different times over the past two thousand years. They include experiences of earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanic eruptions, floods, extremes of weather, droughts, pandemic illnesses, land subsidence and landslides. Most troubling of all is a newcomer to the world of disasters, the terrorist attack. While terrorists have, from time to time in the past, wrought havoc on human environments, the expanded volume and brutality of their activities over the past thirty years has gone beyond all previous acts of violence. Terrorism is the type of disaster that may become increasingly destructive in the future. Buddhism

The Encyclopedia of World Religions series has been designed to provide comprehensive coverage of six major global religious traditions—Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism, Roman Catholicism, and Protestant Christianity. The volumes have been constructed in an A-to-Z format to provide a handy guide to the major terms, concepts, people, events, and organizations that have, in each case, trans-formed the religion from its usually modest begin-nings to the global force that it has become. Each of these religions began as the faith of a relatively small group of closely related eth¬nic peoples. Each has, in the modern world, become a global community, and, with one nota¬ble exception, each has transcended its beginning to become an international multiethnic com¬munity. Judaism, of course, largely defines itself by its common heritage and ancestry and has an alternative but equally fascinating story. Surviving long after most similar cultures from the ancient past have turned to dust, Judais

NASA ISN’T TELLING YOU ABOUT MARS

Image
Starting point of our exploration Gusev crater on Mars is where our ground exploration takes place. The other rover named Opportunity landed on another distant part of the planet, and is not the subject of this book. Mars is our nearest approximate earth-sized planet. It has been pounded by asteroids, meteorites and other objects over its long history. A re-broadcast of a NASA mission planning meeting was aired on the agency’s contract television channel in early 2005. In that meeting, a roomful of scientists voted where on Mars the Spirit and Opportunity rovers should land by a show of hands. We will focus mainly on Gusev crater for our exploration. Coordinates of Spirit’s landing site are 14.57 degrees south latitude and 175.47 degrees east longitude. [1] Below is an orbital image of Gusev crater. NASA chose to land Spirit near the edge of this crater. Craters have lo

Do You Believe In Ghosts?

Do U Guys believe in Ghosts? Does they exist in real? Can U atleast believe they exist near by us or in our backyard following us as our friend or invisible well wisher or may be as the one who wanna hurt or threaten us.    Even I never believed in them, I always used to scold my friends when they raise this topic. But unfortunately on one auspiscious day I started in believing them. because of an incident took place when we went out on a drive.    Before I explain this real and mind-blowing incident, please check this photo so keanly. Keep your eyes wide open. Just check what's standing behind  a man (my friend). Yes that's what I mean. There is a ghost standing my friend( His name is Ismail). We've shot 5 snaps in the same location, out of five snaps we're able to get just this photo. Rest of the photograpegrs were spoiled. Animal Behavior

Image
People have probably always been fascinated by the behavior of animals. Indeed an understanding of the behavior of prey animals must have been essential to our early ancestors; their paintings on the walls of caves suggest that they could have been fairly familiar with behavioral concepts such as herd size and migration. The earliest stock-farmers would have needed to understand the behavior of the charges in their care just as their modern counterparts do today. Some members of society (and even some biology students) may wrongly think of the study of animal behavior in an academic context as being a soft science or even an easy option. However, I hope to show you in this introduction to the subject that it is an important and rigorous science and that it has a clear application to some of the problems that we face in the modern world. Atlantis

A Lost Civilization The Atlantis Encyclopedia is a result of more than two decades of continuous studyand international travel. It began in 1980, when I started picking up clues to the lostcivilization in locations from the ruins of Troy and Egypt’s desert pyramids, to Morocco’ sunderground shrine and Britain’s Stonehenge, beyond to the mountaintop city of Peru and a ceremonial center in the jungles of Guatemala. My quest took me to Polynesia’scannibal temple, the seldom seen solar monuments of Japan’s remote forests, and the golden pillar of Thailand. I sought out credible proof in my own country, traveling fromcoast to coast, finding telltale evidence among the world’s most northerly pyramids,in Wisconsin; at Ohio’s Great Serpent Mound; and in the ruins of North America’s oldest city, in Louisiana. I participated in diving expeditions to the Bahamas, Yucatan, the Canary Islands, the Aegean Sea, and the PacificOcean. Decades of these on-site explorations was combined with research in

Journey of the Plates

Hollow Earth Cities

Recently, America watched Stephen Spielberg's TV pilot, a remake of Verne' s "Journey to the Center of the Earth." A maverick team of scientists aboard their meltproof ship enter the inner Earth through a bubbling volcano. When things cool off, they find themselves exploring a vast and sunny inner landscape . . . a magical and inviting world with ample room to fly.Their adventure resembles the real life account of a Norwegian sailor named Olaf Jansen. His story, set in the 1800s, is told in Willis Emerson's biography entitled "The Smoky God." Olaf's little sloop drifted so far north by storm that he actually sailed into a polar entrance and lived for two years with one of the colonies of the AgarthaNetwork, called "Shamballa the Lesser." He describes his hosts as those " of the central seat of government for the inner continent . . . measuring a full 12 feet in height . . . extending courtesies and showing kindness . . .laughing heart
